Entrance exams

Prospective students are required to take the SAT I and demonstrate English proficiency to apply to LAU.

SATs

  • All prospective undergraduates must submit their SAT I scores to LAU.
  • Lebanese students applying to the Freshman Arts and Freshman Science applicants must also submit SAT II scores. (Please see Admission requirements for more information.)
  • You can register for the SAT tests by visiting sat.collegeboard.com/register/how-to-register. The university’s code for both the SAT and the TOEFL is 2595.
  • If you need help studying for the SAT, contact the Continuing Education Program, which offers SAT prep courses.
  • It’s recommended to sign up for the SAT I as soon as possible. For entry in fall 2011, the last session will be June 2011.

English Proficiency

Since most LAU courses are conducted in English, you must also demonstrate proficiency in English in one of the following ways:

Those who choose to sit for the TOEFL should take the international test. The institutional TOEFL is not accepted at LAU.

Based on your test results, you may be required to take, or may be exempted from, certain courses at LAU. The chart below explains the basic rules:

SAT I writing 380–439
You will have to register for ENG009 Remedial English, a non-credit course (three hours of instruction weekly, but no credits are counted)
EEE 550–599
Internet-based TOEFL 90–100
SAT I writing 440–499
 You are exempt from ENG009 Remedial English.
 EEE 600–649
Internet-based TOEFL 101–110
SAT I writing 500–559
 You are exempt from ENG009 Remedial English and ENG101 English I.
 EEE 650 or higher
Internet-based TOEFL ≥ 111
SAT I writing ≥ 560
 You are exempt from ENG009 Remedial English, ENG101 English I, and ENG102 English II.

Application deadlines

Undergraduate applications:

  • May 31: Deadline to apply for summer 2012
  • July 31: Deadline to apply for fall 2012

Graduate applications:

Apply for financial aid & scholarships

  • July 31: Deadline for new students and returnees to apply for financial aid for fall 2012
